Position Overview

Technical Operations Specialist/Analyst Qualifications Job Responsibilities:

The position of Operations Technician is an entry level technical role that interfaces wit36Kh multiple members of the operations and customer teams on a technical and customer service level.

The core activity for Operations Technicians is to complete routine control activities such as verifying backups, reviewing event logs, routine testing of alerting, verification of monitoring systems, etc. One set of tasks needs to be completed on a daily basis, another set every week, and other sets of tasks are performed on a monthly and quarterly basis. Collectively, these tasks are called “Ops Tasks”. In a typical day, the Operations Technician will be required to complete a combination of daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly tasks.

Because Ops Tasks involve most of the systems under management by IP Services, Operations Technicians will receive basic training and learn to operate a wide variety of systems in a relatively short period of time.

In addition to performing the Ops Tasks, Operations Technicians provide routine support for a wide range of IT applications, server platforms, Cybersecurity systems, Hyper-Convergence Technologies, networks, backup and data storage systems, database systems, desktops, and facilities-based systems such as power and air conditioning and physical security.

As they progress in the job, Operations Technicians are expected to demonstrate growing technical skill-sets in the areas of:

  • Windows Systems / Servers - Desktops
  • Networks / Routers / Switches
  • Cybersecurity Systems – EDR / Firewalls / SEIMs / Etc.
  • Linux / Unix Systems
  • Applications and monitoring systems and other software tools and systems
  • Data Base Administration

Development of these skills is required for advancement to the System Administrator level.

Operations Technicians also need to be customer-focused and detail oriented, providing excellent service to the company and our company’s customers with regards to the support of all computer systems in a data center environment.

In addition, Operations Technicians are responsible for applying IT process theory, including ITIL Service Support and Service Delivery process concepts, to develop and maintain procedures for managing the processes they are assigned.
